All three tapes below are flame-retardant tapes engineered for aircraft cargo compartments — sealing seams, repairing liners, and covering pins and rivets. They differ mainly in carrier construction, adhesive system, thickness, and approvals. The 296FR is a lightweight 7-mil fiberglass acrylic tape with low-outgassing data and a Boeing BMS5-146 approval; the 290FR is a heavy-duty 13-mil PE-coated fiberglass tape with an aggressive rubber adhesive and the highest tensile strength in the category; the 225FR is a 12-mil PE-coated cloth tape with a natural rubber FR adhesive approved to Douglas, Fokker, and Lockheed specs. The lighter-duty cargo-pit workhorse — a 12-mil PE-coated cloth duct tape for seaming and repairing cargo liner panels, covering pins and rivets, and general patching, sealing, and bundling in the cargo bay. Natural rubber adhesive grips aggressively and resists flagging and lifting; the PE coating adds moisture, solvent, and abrasion resistance. Deca-BDE free and UN approved. Meets FAR 25.853(a)(1)(i) for use in aircraft cargo compartments.
