Boeing Material Specification BMS 5-133 covers pressure-sensitive, flame-retardant carpet tapes used to secure carpet and floor coverings in aircraft cabins, where the tape has to pass FAR 25.853(a) flammability requirements. The specification sorts tapes by Type and Class. For the standard Type II, Class 1 & 2 callout, the tape we stock is the Polyken 108FR — a double-coated cloth tape with a flame-retardant rubber adhesive.

What the BMS 5-133 callout codes mean
BMS 5-133 sorts carpet tapes by Type, which tracks construction and weight, and Class, which tracks adhesive color. Below is what each designation covers and whether we stock it:
Standard-weight double-coated carpet tape with natural adhesive — beige on the roll. The most common cabin-carpet callout. In stock as 108FR Beige.
The same standard-weight construction with black adhesive, chosen where a dark adhesive line is preferred. In stock as 108FR Black.
The heavier-weight class, for higher-hold applications. Not a grade we stock — send us the callout and we will check availability with the manufacturer.
The lightweight differential-tack class, used where weight saving matters. Not currently available from the manufacturer — see the section below.
Read the Type and Class off your drawing, not off this page. What each Type and Class requires is defined in the Boeing specification, which is the controlling document and which we do not republish. What we can tell you is which designations the 108FR is listed to — Type II, Class 1 and Class 2 — and that its data sheet names BMS 5-133 directly. If your drawing calls out anything else, send it to us and we will check it before you buy.
Type IV callouts — current status
We regularly get RFQs for BMS 5-133 Type IV, the lightweight differential-tack class formerly served by the Polyken 1111. That product is not currently available from the manufacturer.
If your drawing specifically requires Type IV, send us the callout — we can advise on status and alternatives. What we will not do is supply a Type II tape against a Type IV callout: they are different constructions, and a substitution needs approval under your own engineering procedure, not ours.

Note the operating range starts at 40°F, not −40°F — this is a rubber-adhesive carpet tape, not a low-temperature product. Always verify against the controlling drawing and the current manufacturer data sheet for your application.

What is Boeing BMS 5-133?

Do you carry BMS 5-133 Type IV?
Type IV is the lightweight differential-tack class, formerly served by the Polyken 1111, and it is not currently available from the manufacturer. We can advise on status and alternatives, but a Type II tape cannot be substituted where Type IV is specified — that is a different construction and needs approval under your own engineering procedure. Does Polyken 108FR meet FAA flammability requirements?
Per the manufacturer data sheet, the 108FR is tested to FAR 25.853(a) with a 4.5 inch burn length and a 1.5 second exiting time, and drip exiting is listed as N/A. Confirm against the current data sheet for your specific application and substrate.
How much does BMS 5-133 carpet tape cost?
A single 2 inch by 25 yard roll of Polyken 108FR is $31.99 in either color. Three rolls work out at $28.79 each, eight rolls at $25.59, and a full case of 24 at $20.83 a roll — 35 percent off the single-roll price. Prices can change, so confirm on the product page.
What widths and roll lengths does Polyken 108FR come in?
We stock it in one size: 48 mm by 23 m, which is 2 inches by 25 yards, in beige and black. It is available as single rolls, 3 and 8 packs, or cases of 24. If your drawing calls for a different width, send us the callout and we will check what the manufacturer can slit and what the lead time would be.
What temperature range does Polyken 108FR handle?
Its data sheet gives an operating range of 40°F to 200°F, which is 4°C to 93°C. Note that the lower limit is positive 40°F rather than minus 40°F — this is a rubber-adhesive carpet tape rather than a low-temperature product, so if your application sees sub-freezing service temperatures, tell us and we will confirm suitability with the manufacturer.
