Special order item · 1–2 week lead time · SOLD “BY THE CASE” ONLY · 16 OSHA colors
The versatile vinyl tape built for color coding, lane marking, and OSHA safety identification — 6-mil soft PVC backing, write-on matte finish, and 16 vibrant stocked colors. Trusted across manufacturing floors, warehouses, vehicles, and equipment where color-coded organization isn't just helpful — it's required.
CVT-636 is a premium 6-mil soft PVC vinyl tape with a synthetic and natural rubber resin blend adhesive. The highly conformable matte-surface backing accepts pen and marker for on-the-fly labeling, provides an effective vapor and moisture barrier, and stands up to sun, water, fungus, bacteria, oils, acids, alkalies, and corrosive chemicals — making it a workhorse for industrial color-coding, decorating, masking, harness wrapping, and duct sealing applications.

Special Order Product
CVT-636 is a made-to-order product with a standard lead time of 1–2 weeks from the date of order confirmation.

Why Choose CVT-636 Over 3M 471
CVT-636 and 3M 471 are both premium colored vinyl tapes engineered for OSHA color coding, lane marking, and general-purpose industrial applications. Here's how they compare head-to-head:
- 16 colors vs. 9 — CVT-636 stocks nearly twice as many OSHA-compliant colors, including three shades of green, three shades of blue, and two shades of brown for more granular color-coding systems
- 6-mil vs. 5.2-mil thickness — CVT-636's thicker backing provides greater durability and abrasion resistance in high-traffic environments
- 150% vs. 130% elongation — CVT-636 conforms more aggressively to curved and irregular surfaces without lifting
- Wider cold-weather range — CVT-636 performs reliably from -20°F (vs. 3M 471's 40°F minimum), making it the better choice for cold storage, freezer environments, and outdoor winter applications
- Equivalent tensile strength — Both deliver 14 lbs/inch tensile strength for reliable hold and clean one-piece removal
- Cost-effective spec match — CVT-636 delivers comparable or superior performance to 3M 471 at a competitive price point
3M 471 holds an edge in two areas: higher adhesion to steel (23 oz/in vs. 18 oz/in) and higher maximum service temperature (170°F vs. 140°F). For applications requiring extreme heat resistance or maximum peel strength on steel, 3M 471 may be the better choice. For everything else — color variety, cold-weather performance, conformability, and value — CVT-636 is the stronger specification.
Surface Preparation
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and oil before application. For best results, apply to a clean, dry surface at temperatures between 60°F and 85°F (16°C to 27°C). Store rolls in a cool, dry area at 60°F to 80°F with 40–50% relative humidity, out of direct sunlight.
