3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425 combines a dead-soft aluminum foil backing with a transparent, highly engineered acrylic adhesive to deliver 3M's premier general-purpose foil tape. Flame resistant and certifiable to aerospace specifications, it offers excellent heat and light reflection, an effective moisture barrier, and long serviceable life indoors or out — the trusted choice for aircraft sealing, masking, heat shielding, and repair applications.
The dead-soft, thermally conductive aluminum backing dissipates heat across the surface of the tape to reduce hot spots and protect the substrate, while the acrylic adhesive withstands exposure to high heat, humidity, weathering, UV, and solvents — yet removes cleanly after harsh masking applications. Its very low moisture vapor transmission rate makes it an ideal sealant, and because it will not contaminate the bath, it is a strong candidate as a maskant in aluminum electroplating.
Manufacturer's Certificate of Conformance included FREE of charge.
Key Features
- Dead-soft aluminum foil backing — Conformable, thermally conductive, and hand-tearable; provides excellent reflection of both heat and light
- Transparent acrylic adhesive — Highly engineered for long-term durability; withstands heat, humidity, UV, and solvents yet removes cleanly after masking
- Flame resistant — UL Recognized to UL 746C (File E 122798) and Classified by UL to UL 723, Class “L” low flammability rating (File R 7311)
- Aerospace certifiable — Can be certified to L-T-80C and meets the requirements of FAR 25.853(a)
- Moisture barrier — Very low moisture vapor transmission rate makes it an effective sealant
- Indoor/outdoor durability — Acrylic adhesive and durable aluminum backing provide long serviceable life in and outdoors
- Clean masking — Will not contaminate the bath, making it a good maskant in electroplating of aluminum
Applications
- Aircraft paint stripping maskant and chemical masking / de-paint operations
- Heat shielding, heat reflecting, and heat dissipation of delicate parts
- Moisture barrier and general-purpose sealing — indoors and out
- Repair of tears on truck trailers and aircraft
- Splicing of thin-gauge foils and general holding, patching, and sealing
