Nitto P-306 Alternative — Patco 1800 Galley Tape
Nitto P-306 Alternative — Patco 1800 Black Vinyl Galley Tape
A side-by-side comparison of the Nitto (formerly Permacel) P-306 / P-306L black vinyl protection tape and the Patco 1800 flame-retardant black vinyl galley tape.
Nitto P-306, often ordered simply as "Nitto 306" or Permacel P-306, is a black PVC film tape used as a moisture barrier on aircraft floor panels and as a corrosion-resistant wrap. The unlined P-306 is now listed by distributors as no longer available, and the lined P-306L is harder to find. Patco 1800 is the black PVC galley tape we supply in its place: a similar black vinyl construction, plus published FAR 25.853(a) flammability testing and Fokker and Bombardier approvals.
9.5 mil flame-retardant black PVC film tape with an acrylic adhesive on a kraft paper liner. Tested to FAR 25.853(a) and approved to Fokker FK05-159/160 and Bombardier DSC 91-25. Sold in 2″, 3″ and 4″ widths and wide 18″ and 24″ rolls, all 100 ft. Certificate of Conformance with every order where available.
View Patco 1800 →10 mil black PVC film tape with a high-tack rubber adhesive. P-306 is unlined; P-306L adds a liner for wide-width application. Nitto lists it for moisture barrier on aircraft floor panels, corrosion protection of pipes and conduits, and media-blast masking. P-306 is listed by distributors as no longer available.
Specification comparison
Values are from each manufacturer's published data sheet. "Not published" means the value does not appear on the data sheet we hold, not that the tape failed a test.

What to know when you substitute
Why Patco 1800 works
- Same basic construction. Both are black PVC film tapes of nearly the same thickness, 9.5 mil against 10.0 mil, built for moisture and corrosion protection.
- Published flammability. Patco 1800 is tested to FAR 25.853(a) for aircraft interior use. The Nitto P-306 data sheet does not list a FAR rating.
- Higher adhesion. 50 oz/in to steel against 29 oz/in.
- Wide rolls available. 18″ and 24″ widths for floor-panel and wet-area coverage, as well as 2″ to 4″.
Confirm before you order
- The adhesive is different. Patco 1800 uses an acrylic adhesive; P-306 uses rubber. If your procedure depends on a particular adhesive or sealant compatibility, test first.
- Tensile and stretch are lower. 25 lb/in and 200% elongation against 34 lb/in and 290% for P-306. If your job relies on the tape stretching over contours, or a tensile value is called out, check that Patco 1800 meets it.
- Check the callout. If your drawing names a waterseal specification such as BMS 8-346, Patco 1800 is not the product: see our BMS 8-346 guide for Patco D9100 and 9425FR.
- Substitution needs approval. Replacing one tape with another on an aircraft is an engineering decision under your own approved procedure. This comparison supports that decision; it does not replace it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nitto P-306 discontinued?
Distributors list the unlined Nitto P-306 as no longer available. The lined P-306L is still offered by some distributors, but availability varies. Patco 1800 is a current black PVC galley tape we keep available as an alternative.
What is the difference between Nitto P-306 and P-306L?
Both are 10 mil black PVC film tapes with a rubber adhesive and the same published tensile and adhesion values. P-306L adds a release liner, which Nitto describes as developed for easier wide-width application. P-306 has no liner.
Is Patco 1800 the same as Nitto P-306?
No, but it is the closest match we supply. Both are black PVC film tapes of similar thickness used as moisture barriers. Patco 1800 uses an acrylic adhesive rather than rubber, has higher adhesion to steel, and is tested to FAR 25.853(a) with Fokker and Bombardier approvals.
Is Patco 1800 flame retardant?
Yes. Patco 1800 is tested to FAR 25.853(a) Appendix F for aircraft interior use and is approved to Fokker FK05-159 and FK05-160 and Bombardier DSC 91-25. See our flame retardant tape guide for what that rating means.
Where is black vinyl galley tape used on aircraft?
As a moisture barrier and corrosion protection on floor structure in wet cabin areas such as galleys, lavatories and entryways, where spilled water could otherwise reach the floor panels and structure beneath.
Is Patco 1800 a BMS 8-346 tape?
No. Patco 1800 carries Fokker and Bombardier approvals, not Boeing BMS 8-346. If your drawing calls out BMS 8-346, use Patco D9100 for Class 1 or Patco 9425FR for Class 3. See our BMS 8-346 guide.
