The aluminum foil tape engineered for serious vapor barriers, heat reflection, and chemical masking — 3-mil dead-soft aluminum, aggressive acrylic adhesive, and 72 oz/in adhesion to steel. Trusted by HVAC contractors, electroplaters, and insulation pros where a weak bond isn't an option.
AF-30A is a 3.0-mil dead-soft aluminum foil tape with a 2.0-mil solvent-based acrylic adhesive and an easy-release silicone paper liner. The malleable aluminum backing conforms to irregular and curved surfaces, while the high-performance acrylic adhesive delivers quick, positive grab and long-term hold across a wide temperature range. Flame resistant, weather resistant, and an excellent moisture vapor barrier — engineered for indoor and outdoor industrial applications.
Special Order Product
AF-30A is a made-to-order product with a standard lead time of 1–2 weeks from the date of order confirmation.
Key Features

Why Choose AF-30A Over 3M 427
AF-30A and 3M 427 are both linered aluminum foil tapes with acrylic adhesives, engineered for HVAC vapor barriers, chemical masking, and heat reflection. Here's how they compare head-to-head:
- 72 vs. 50 oz/in adhesion to steel — AF-30A delivers 44% stronger peel adhesion, the most important spec for vapor-barrier and seam-sealing applications where a weak bond means leaks, callbacks, and energy loss
- 3.0-mil vs. 2.8-mil foil backing — AF-30A's thicker backing provides greater puncture and tear resistance during installation and handling
- 5.0-mil vs. 4.6-mil total thickness — More material under the adhesive for better gap-filling on irregular surfaces
- Equivalent service temperature top end — Both perform to 300°F continuous
- Cost-effective spec match — AF-30A delivers superior adhesion performance to 3M 427 at a competitive price point
3M 427 holds an edge in two areas: wider cold-temperature range (-65°F vs. -40°F) and higher tensile strength (28 vs. 22.7 lbs/in). For aerospace cryogenic applications or installations requiring sub-zero performance below -40°F, 3M 427 may be the better choice. For everything else — adhesion strength, foil thickness, and value — AF-30A is the stronger specification.
Surface Preparation & Storage
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, oil, and condensation before application. Apply at temperatures between 50°F and 105°F (10°C to 41°C) for optimal adhesion. Press firmly along the full length of the tape to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive and ensure complete contact with the substrate.
Store rolls in a cool, dry area at approximately 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity, out of direct sunlight, with the liner intact until ready for application.
